On 30/03/2022, the Representation of Flanders to the EU had the pleasure to welcome the Flemish seaports Port of Antwerp, Port of Zeebrugge and North Sea Port, the regional airports of Antwerp, Kortrijk and Ostend-Bruges, and Brussels Airport for an interesting exchange on Fit for 55.
Our transport attaché Joke Bamps and her intern Saar Van Ruyskensvelde, energy attaché Jorre De Schrijver, environment attaché Marjan Decroos and CBAM expert Lieven Top guided our attendees through the latest state of play of each of the Fit for 55 initiatives on EU level and with regard to the Flemish and Belgian positions, such as the regulation for the infrastructure of alternative fuels, the renewable energy directive and the review of the EU emission trading system. Especially the expected impact of Fit for 55 on sea ports and airports was highlighted. A Q&A and stimulating exchange followed.
Diplomatic Representatives Matthias De Moor and Axel Buyse and their deputy Sarina Motmans also took part in the meeting.
Our sea ports and airports play an important economic and logistical role in Flanders and contribute to the welfare and employment of Flanders. They are therefore an important stakeholder and for the Flemish authorities.
